Automotive Service Technician 2

Description

Automotive Service Technician 2 program is the second of four Automotive Service Technician programs leading to a Red Seal Inter-provincial certification.

Certified Automotive Service Technicians are involved in inspecting, maintaining and repairing automobiles and light trucks that run on gasoline, diesel, electricity or alternative fuels such as ethanol. The increasing sophistication of automobiles and trucks requires technicians who can use computerized shop equipment and work with electronic components while maintaining their skills with traditional hand tools.

The Automotive Service Technician 2 is usually involved in all the duties of an AST 1 as well as:

  • Repairing starting and charging systems.
  • Repairing and servicing air conditioning, heating, engine cooling systems.
  • Diagnosing, repairing and servicing passenger restraint and electrical accessories.
  • Repairing gasoline engines.
  • Repairing fuel systems on diesel engines.
