Building on research and development work since 2008, ITA is launching consultations on the enhanced assessment approach for challengers developed this fall of 2011. Around the world and across Canada, jurisdictions are increasingly utilizing enhanced assessment methods to bring qualified, skilled workers into the credentialed work force and offer multi faceted ways to judge competency.
Our research and pilot tests suggest that the enhanced assessment approach is a positive step forward...allowing qualified challengers new ways to demonstrate their skills, beyond the written exam, while maintaining the high standards we expect for trades certification in British Columbia.
We are aware that enhanced assessment may not be a one-size-fits-all solution. We want to know what you think...
About the utility of the enhanced assessment approach for challengers in your trade
About the opportunities and concerns that enhanced assessment tools bring to accreditation
About potential paths forward for adopting enhanced assessment for challengers in BC trades
In October and November 2011, we're holding free workshops and hosting on-line surveys and webinars to share what we've learned about enhanced assessment and get feedback from leaders and managers in the employer, union, trades training, aboriginal training, or immigrant serving communities. Feedback and input from our consultation processes will be used to guide ITA's strategic response to the enhanced assessment approach for challengers in BC.
