The provinces and territories, with the assistance of the Government of Canada - Human Resources Services Development Canada (HRSDC), support the Inter-provincial Standards Red Seal Program. These government agencies provide for the development and approval of inter-provincial examinations based on National Occupational Analysis (NOA) produced by the Government of Canada.

The purpose of the program is to acquire standardization of provincial and territorial training and certification. The program also assists skilled workers at the journeyperson level to work and move to different locates throughout Canada.

The program is administered in each of the provinces and territories under the guidance of the Canadian Council of Directors of Apprenticeship (CCDA).

The trades which have Red Seal status are listed on the following website - www.red-seal.ca Individuals who complete their apprenticeship in any of the listed trades from the Red Seal website will obtain a "Red Seal" endorsement on their provincial or territorial Certificate of Qualification.

BC also has a listing of Red Seal trades on the Industry Training Authority (ITA) website - www.itabc.ca Individuals can refer to Red Seal trades listed on the ITA website to determine the apprenticeship requirements for certification.
