"Domestic/Commercial Gasfitter" means a person who may install, test, maintain, manufacture, assemble, construct, operate, alter and repairs propane/natural gas regulated products, such as: supply lines, appliances, equipment and accessories for use in residential and commercial premises. Limitations are dependent upon classification level.
Gasfitters employed by utility companies may install, repair/service distribution systems, meter sets and fittings from a city gate or bulk storage facility to the outlet of an individual user's meter set.
Those employed by propane distributors may install/service propane vaporizers, tanks/cylinder systems, liquid/vapour piping supply systems, temporary heating equipment, propane metering/dispensing equipment, and propane pumping equipment.
Gasfitters employed by mechanical and service companies may install and maintain piping and appliances in residential, commercial and industrial buildings.
The ITA is responsible for administering the apprenticeship training for Domestic/Commercial Gasfitter - (Class B). The British Columbia Safety Authority (BCSA) is responsible for regulating the Domestic/Commercial Gasfitter - (Class B) Certificate of Qualification. Please refer to the British Columbia Safety Authority (BCSA) web site - www.safetyauthority.ca for information on the Certificate of Qualification examination requirements. Domestic/Commercial Gasfitter - (Class B) examinees are required to have a 70% or better mark before acquiring the Domestic/Commercial Gasfitter - (Class B) Certificate of Qualification.
