Floor Covering Installer

Description

Floor Covering Installers install, repair and replace finishing surfaces such as carpet, hardwood, laminate and cork flooring, linoleum, vinyl and other types of floor coverings in residential, commercial, industrial and institutional buildings. Floor Covering Installer is a nationally designated trade under the Inter-provincial Red Seal program.

Floor Covering Installers also inspect, measure and clean the surfaces to be covered before they install the floor covering. In some cases, they correct irregular or incompatible surfaces by sanding and filling or installing suitable sub-floor structures. Underlay is often used, and a knowledge of the various underlay materials used is important.

Floor Covering Installers need a thorough understanding of the products they work with and are often expected to be able to estimate the cost, type and quantities of materials required. Many of them are attracted to their job because flooring materials are typically part of the finishing touches on a construction project.
