PROGRAM STATUS – INACTIVE - (effective February 2, 2012)
No new apprentices will be registered in this trade

Note: Due to low numbers of apprentices registered in this trade over the past five years, ITA has concluded that there is insufficient support from industry to maintain Log Builder as an active program; therefore, the program has been classified as "inactive". Once a program is designated "inactive," ITA will not register new apprentices in the program.

ITA emphasizes its commitment to ensuring that apprentices already in the system have the opportunity to complete their program and to earn their credentials. The time apprentices are provided to complete their program will vary depending on the program's length and the apprentices' needs. Apprentices should be aware that under these special circumstances - particularly in cases where in-school technical training is no longer available - their program may not follow the programs' original training structure.

ITA strongly encourages apprentices and employers to report previously unreported Work-Based Training hours as soon as possible. The Work-Based Training report form is available on ITA's website - under Forms and Fees.

ITA also reassures both apprentices and employers that credentials earned while a program is inactive are valid and will continue to be recognized provincially.

For further information on the criteria used for evaluating ITA programs, please see ITA Operational Policy PP1002 - Criteria for Deactivation of Recognized Apprenticeship and Foundation Industry Training Programs.

Should you have any questions or concerns about completing your program, please contact ITA Customer Service at (778) 328-8700; Toll Free +1 866-660-6011 or by email at customerservice@itabc.ca.

Regardless of the program's inactivation, ITA is working with the Log Builder industry to explore whether the industry wishes to restructure or modify the Log Builder program by submitting an Industry Needs Analysis (INA) to ITA. The purpose of the INA is to demonstrate sound reason for ITA's re-investment in the program.

Description

"Log Builder" means a person who works logs and timber in all forms in such a manner that, by means of simple and complex joinery, those logs and timber are made into recreational, residential, and commercial structures.
