British Columbia's Aboriginal population is younger and growing faster than the general population and can help address the growing skilled-labour shortage. To increase the number of Aboriginal people in the skilled work force barriers need to be removed. ITA is helping to do this with:
- Financial support, including: tuition support, funding for childcare and transportation costs, work gear, tools and equipment
- Essential skills and Grade 11/12 equivalency training
- Foundation training and pre-apprenticeship exposure to the trades
- Mobile training in First Nations communities
- Exposure to role models and peer support
