Saw Filer

“Saw Filer” means a person who fits all types of saws, including circular saws, band saws, gang saws, chain saws, and operates, repairs and adjusts saw sharpening equipment and is also competent to bench all circular and gang saws, including tensioning, welding cracks, welding on teeth and included any other work that is usually performed by a Saw Filer in the Lumber Manufacturing Industry.

Optional Endorsement: “Benchperson” means a person who is a qualified Saw Filer who is able to bench band saws, including the lining up of head rigs, grinding of band wheels and any other work usually performed by a Benchperson in the Lumber Manufacturing Industry.

Program Updates:

The Saw Filer Certificate of Qualification (CofQ) exam is under review and unavailable for new challengers at this time.  A status update will be provided in early 2016.

The exam weighting chart is available for the Certificate of Qualification (CofQ) and shows the approximate percentage of weighting per General Area of Competency (GAC).

Challenge Certification/Recognize Prior Experience

If you have significant work experience in a trade but have never been certified in Canada, you may apply to challenge the certification.

OR

If you sponsor apprentices but have never been certified in Canada, you may request to supervise and sign-off apprentices when they are ready to be certified.
