Tower Crane Operator

“Tower Crane Operator” means a person who operates tower cranes (including luffing jib and articulated jib tower cranes) to perform lifts and hoist loads, and has experience with rigging practices and procedures.

These documents are for any new or experienced crane operator preparing to write a crane operator certification exam. We want you to succeed; the guides help you identify how and what to study, where to find study materials, and what to expect on the exam. The guides also provide example questions in each subject area so you can try a mini-practice exam.

Program Updates:

ITA is launching a Red Seal program for Tower Crane Operators December 1, 2017. For details refer to OPSN 2017-020. The Tower Crane Operator Program Profile and Program Outline will be effective December 1, 2017. If you are registered in the current Tower Crane Operator Program, the Tower Crane Operator Transition Plan outlines the options for current apprentices and challengers. 

If you already hold a Tower Crane Operator BC Certificate of Qualification, you may earn the Red Seal endorsement by writing and passing the Tower Crane Operator Interprovincial Red Seal exam. To apply, forms can be found here.

Challenge Certification/Recognize Prior Experience

If you have significant work experience in a trade but have never been certified in Canada, you may apply to challenge the certification.

OR

If you sponsor apprentices but have never been certified in Canada, you may request to supervise and sign-off apprentices when they are ready to be certified.
