WITT (Women in Trades Training) is an initiative geared towards women who are interested in pursuing a career in the trades. It is an exploratory program where women get a chance to experience Red Seal qualified trades including plumbing/pipefitting, welding, heavy duty mechanic, electrical, carpentry, instrumentation mechanic, heavy equipment operator and more! To further increase the students' employability, included in this program are the following certificates: First Aid Level 1, Fall Arrest, Traffic Control, H2S Alive etc.
Successful exploration students will be offered the opportunity to ladder into the trades foundation programs. The support doesn’t end for women in trades with the completion of the WiTT. Support systems are available for women in trades training at TRU including ‘Lunch and Learn’ workshops covering topics such as work search strategies, camp life and wellness programs. Furthermore, a Women in Trades Mentor program is in place. With all of these initiatives, you can see TRU is a great place to take your trades training.
