Vancouver Island University (VIU) trades programs prepare students for entry-level apprenticeship positions in a variety of skilled occupations. VIU is committed to providing practical education and training to meet students’ future career and educational goals, while satisfying the employment needs of industry in the community. Fast Track to Trades
Fast Track to Trades will prepare at risk Youth, Aboriginal Peoples and Women for success in entering an in demand trade in BC by providing a two phase approach that includes: 12 weeks of Academic Upgrading, along with Essential Skills and Employability Skills training. All areas of training are focused on trade occupations preparation, which includes 5 industry certifications.
A portion of those participants who successfully complete phase 1, and who are assessed as benefiting from and being good candidates for further technical training, will ladder into phase 2 of the program and complete Foundation Technical training in a top 10 trade. After completion of this phase of the program they will transition to Apprenticeship employment.
The program will offer 3 months of post program follow up to support employment success and retention.
