RECEIVE TAX CREDITS

Hiring a youth apprentice makes good business sense. The Provincial and Federal governments provide income tax credits for employers of apprentices registered in Industry Training Authority (ITA) apprenticeship programs.

As an employer sponsor you can:

  1. Claim 10% of eligible apprentice wages per year for Red Seal trades
  2. Get $1.47* back for every $1 you invest in apprenticeship training
  3. Claim 20% of eligible apprentice wages per year for non-Red Seal trades

WHAT DOES AN EMPLOYEE SPONSOR DO?

As an employer sponsor you have certain responsibilities:

  1. Mentor and provide work-based training opportunities for apprentices to learn the skills of the trade
  2. Monitor your apprentices progress and provide feedback where needed
  3. Track and report your apprentice’s work based training hours
