Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT) is a member of BC’s public post-secondary education system. NVIT honors First Nations traditional culture and values, and recognizes the need to balance these within the educational goals of the Institute’s curriculum. Utilizing two mobile trades training trailers, they deliver programming in First Nations communities throughout British Columbia. Aboriginal in Trades Training
Bridging to Trades is a mobile program delivered in partnership with Aboriginal communities. The program is a 12 week trades exploration program providing more than 360 hours of Employment Readiness, Essential Skills, Workplace Safety and hands on Trades Exploration training to Aboriginal peoples across BC within their own community.
The program is delivered using NVIT’s two state of the art Mobile Training trailers equipped for hands on trades exploration training in 4 different trades: Electrical, Plumbing/Pipefitting, Machining/Millwright, and Welding.
Upon successful completion of this program, students will have a greater opportunity for acceptance into trades schools pre-apprenticeship programs, and or, the skills necessary to enter trades related industries and continue into Apprenticeship.
