For Apprenticeship Recognition Month, the Greater Victoria School District is recognizing Mega Power Installations for their longstanding partnership and contributions to supporting youth in trades and apprenticeships.

WHY ARE YOU NOMINATING THIS EMPLOYER?

Megapower Installations has hired many of our Greater Victoria School District students through Career Prep Electrical programs we run in two of our Secondary Schools.  These students take part in a work experience component and transition into Youth Train and Youth Work students.

Students are teamed up with a journeyperson and are given an opportunity to work in commercial/residential and service opportunities.

As an educator, It is an amazing feeling to see students that I have worked with in the past 15 years still working for Megapower as journeypersons/foreman and working with the new apprentices that are hired on.

- Nominated by Kevin Blecic, Trades Coordinator, SD61

WHY IS APPRENTICESHIP IMPORTANT TO YOU AND YOUR BUSINESS?

It’s important to me as this is our future. Tradespeople are responsible for providing essential services that are critical for our everyday lives. Without skilled tradespeople, we wouldn’t have functioning homes and infrastructure that are essential for the growth and overall well-being of a community.

We have been training apprentices for the past 47 years, ensuring that we have talented tradespeople with the right skills for our industry.

We have had the honor of participating in the high school trade program from the start. Allowing us to help with the growth and development of our trade by sharing some of our skills and experience with the students. We have also benefited from the program with certain students being offered apprenticeships after graduation, even moving up through the ranks to Crew Chiefs and Project Managers.

With an aging workforce, this is the time that we need to encourage more of our youth on a career path in the trades.
