Here's a Q&A with Dal Dhatt, Apprenticeship Advisor for Surrey and White Rock.
What is your trades background/experience?
I’m not a ticketed guy in any trade but have a solid perspective on how trades impact individuals and contribute to the success of BC. I have a thorough understanding of all the trades, which is important for an Apprenticeship Advisor.
How long have you been with ITA?
Almost 13 years and counting.
What do you enjoy most about working at ITA?
I look forward to the challenges of each day, and the people at ITA are very easy going and approachable at all levels of the organization. It’s a great feeling knowing about the work that ITA does in building apprenticeship in BC.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
In my spare time, I enjoy working out and coaching soccer whenever I can as my three kids are all soccer players. I like to socialize with family and friends as well.
What would you like people to know about the trades?
Try a trade if the opportunity arises, shadow a tradesperson, and learn a skill. You may be good at it, and it will be a rewarding career.
What advice would you give to people interested in becoming an apprentice?
Talk to people working in a trade and do your research. There are many websites with trades information or chat to your local advisor. We can provide you with resources and local knowledge to make the next step easier.
