Here's a Q&A with David Senyard, Apprenticeship Advisor for Chilliwack.
What is your trades background/experience?
I have worked in the hospitality industry for more than a decade and spent four years as a career advisor at a culinary school. For the past four years, I worked as a job coach/essential skill instructor at a First Nation trade school. The school offered programs in the construction industry with an emphasis on carpentry and pipefitting.
How long have you been with ITA?
What do you enjoy most about working at ITA?
I’m looking forward to helping people find careers that makes positive change to their lives.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love to spend time with my family. I also like to read and take my dog on long walks on the beach.
What would you like people to know about the trades?
I would like people to know that trades is a first-choice career. Without skilled tradespersons, we would not have all of the cool things we take for granted.
What advice would you give to people interested in becoming an apprentice?
To do research into which trade fits them the best. Information is power. More/better information improves decision making and improves outcomes.
