Meet Your Advisor: Sebastien Paquet

Sebastien Paquet says if you're interested in trades, go for it and put your heart into it. You’ll see it’s a very rewarding career with lots of opportunities.

Apprenticeship Advisors provide regional support to apprentices and employer sponsors. They help build knowledge and awareness of the B.C. apprenticeship system and provide guidance to apprentices and sponsors on processes and policies related to the apprenticeship journey and challenger pathway.

Here's a Q&A with Sebastien Paquet, Apprenticeship Advisor for Prince Rupert and North West B.C.

What is your trades background/experience?

I worked in employment centres for several years and helped people get trained and working in the trades. More recently, I worked for the school district in Prince Rupert to promote trades training and assisting students in trades programs.

How long have you been with ITA?

I’ve been working for ITA as an Apprenticeship Advisor for almost a year and a half now.

What do you enjoy most about working at ITA?

I like being able to make a difference by assisting apprentices and employers and working with them to solve their problems and helping them moving forward.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I really like listening to music. There’s nothing much better than listening to a good record or CD while reading. I also really enjoy walking with my dogs.

What would you like people to know about the trades?

It’s a great and rewarding career that gives you a lot of opportunities, including travelling around and having your own business.

What advice would you give to people interested in becoming an apprentice?

Go for it and put your heart into it—you’ll see that you find it’s a very rewarding career with lots of opportunities.
